Sana: Voice Tasks is developed by Abhiraman Bakshi. This policy covers Sana on iPhone and Mac.
On your device
You can use Sana without an account. Tasks, notes, note photos, transcript history, preferences and optional local profile details are stored on your device. Local profile details do not subscribe you to marketing. Images selected with Apple’s photo picker or from local files are stored in Sana’s local Note Images storage.
Voice processing
Sana records microphone audio locally, requires on-device speech recognition and uses a bundled on-device model to organise transcripts into tasks. Notes dictation also runs on-device. Recordings and full transcript history are not uploaded to a cloud AI service. Typed tasks and notes work without voice permissions.
Successful task recordings are removed after transcription. A failed recording can remain for retry. Cancelling removes the current recording. A replacement removes the previous retry recording only after recording starts successfully. Dismissing a saved-recording notice stops offering it at launch; dismissed recordings older than a week are cleaned up when Sana starts. Successful transcription text remains in local transcript history.
Optional accounts and task sync
Apple or Google sign-in creates or accesses a Sana account through Supabase. The provider may supply your name, email address and user identifier. Authentication credentials are held in the device Keychain. Apple and Google process their sign-in flows under their own policies.
When account sync is enabled, Sana sends task titles, completion state, categories, reminder and repeat details, note text and source words attached to tasks to its Supabase service. This lets the same Sana account use those tasks on iPhone and Mac. Device-only tasks are copied to an account only when you choose to add them. Account sync uses Supabase, rather than the previous iCloud task service.
Audio, full transcript history, local profile preferences and note image files remain on-device. Synced note text can contain an image-reference marker, but the photo itself is not uploaded and may be unavailable on another device. Local task history retains previous task snapshots.
The Supabase database is hosted in Singapore. Authorised project administrators can access hosted account and task data to operate and support the service; it is not end-to-end encrypted. Supabase processes service data on our behalf. Network and authentication requests also produce operational connection, request, error and security logs. Log retention follows the hosting service’s configured retention, and account deletion does not promise immediate erasure of every infrastructure log or retained backup. See Supabase’s data processing information and logging documentation.
Retention and account deletion
Hosted account information and synced task records are kept while the account exists. Sync retains task versions and deletion records so other devices can reconcile changes; deleting a task does not immediately remove its previous versions from the sync service.
In Profile → Account & sync, choose Delete account and confirm to permanently remove your Sana account and its cloud task data, versions and sync records. Apple-linked accounts require a fresh Apple confirmation, and Sana revokes Apple authorisation before deleting the account. This does not delete your Apple or Google account.
Account deletion does not erase device-only tasks, local account copies, photos, recordings or transcript/history files already on your devices. An offline device may retain a copy until it reconnects, and local files can remain afterwards. Signing out or pausing sync also leaves cloud data and local copies intact. On iPhone, removing Sana removes its app container; Keychain records may persist. Manage device backups separately through Apple’s controls.
Free access and permissions
Sana is free; no trial or purchase is required. Existing historical purchase records are not rewritten and no longer control access. Reminders use local notifications with your permission. Rating Sana is optional and handled by Apple. You can change microphone, speech recognition and notification permissions in your device settings.
No advertising tracking
Sana has no advertising or developer-added analytics SDK. Account and sync data is used for app functionality and service operation, not cross-app advertising tracking. We do not sell your data.
